Christmas in July!

Let’s unwrap a little joy in July. Even though Christmas is still six months away, here at the San Carlos Borromeo Parish centre, the heartbeat of our PENNT sponsor site, we’re already feeling the warmth of the season.

Recently renovated with the help of Chalice donors, the centre is home to school groups, a soup kitchen, parent meetings, parish activities, and retreating Franciscan sisters.

For the children in our PENNT site, it’s a safe haven from the troubled neighbourhoods that surround it, which is why the centre’s Christmas celebrations are so special.

Thanks to everyone who supported Chalice’s Christmas fund, the “Child of San Carlos” celebration welcomed 180 sponsored children and teens for a day of crafts, treats, music, and prayer.

They began with a Scripture reading and then made Christmas crafts.

“We also performed Christmas carols and the dance of adoration of the baby Jesus, which is a Bolivian tradition,” says Soledad, PENNT site director. “We shared a delicious meal, and our priest blessed us, wishing us a Merry Christmas. We shared a bag of candies and cookies with all of them, which they then shared with their entire families.”

“It is not just a Christmas activity,” she says. “Let’s remember that the San Carlos Borromeo Parish and the parish centers are located in areas with many problems. This activity and the spaces that it provides become a safe place for children, teens, and their families.”

Soledad and her team are always impressed by how many community members attend and help to make the annual party a success.

“Many children and teens are waiting for this beautiful activity that creates spaces for reflection, fellowship, and above all, spiritual growth,” she says. “We extend our thanks to all of you, as this is another year that you give us the joy of being able to bring a grain of hope to those who need it most.”

Giving ahead means we’re ready to deliver smiles by December. Click here to spread joy in July!
