Noela breaks the cycle of poverty
Noela dreamed of one day helping others, even if she wasn’t sure what possibilities life might hold for her. Her family faced many challenges growing up. Noela and her four siblings were raised by her grandmother, Mary Rose, near our Nandom sponsor site in Ghana. Sponsorship found its way into Noela’s life, opening doors she never imagined.
When she was in junior high school, the Nandom team paired her with a Chalice sponsor. “At the time, Noela was just 15 years old, and her future was uncertain,” says Charles, Nandom site director. Charles describes Noela as “a young lady whose life has been profoundly shaped by the generosity and support of her sponsors.”
“However, through the support of the sponsorship, she was given an incredible opportunity to pursue her education without the burden of financial constraints. The sponsorship allowed Noela to attend school consistently, and it became the foundation for the future she would build for herself and her family,” he says.
She began to truly shine in the classroom. She had a model work ethic and “an unwavering desire to succeed, often going above and beyond to excel academically,” he says.
“Sponsorship provided her with the resources needed to focus on her studies, helping her realize that her dreams were not just figments of her imagination, but achievable goals within her reach,” he says.
“Noela’s passion for helping others and her interest in healthcare led her to pursue a career in midwifery.” With the continued support of her sponsor, she enrolled in the local midwifery college, where she applied her usual enthusiasm.
In 2023, Noela graduated from the program and passed her licensing exams, becoming a licensed midwife.
“This achievement marked a significant milestone in her journey, a dream that she had worked toward for many years,” says Charles. Now 27, Noela is doing her national service in a hospital while she awaits her official posting.
“She is working hard to gain practical experience in the healthcare field, preparing herself to make a lasting impact as a midwife,” he says. “Noela’s success story is a powerful example of how sponsorship can break the cycle of poverty and offer children from disadvantaged backgrounds the chance to thrive.”
Sponsorship helps break the cycle of poverty and allows students to pursue their dreams through education.
