Little Victories Achieved Through Catholic Child Sponsorship Programs
Growing up in poverty is a struggle in and of itself, but combined with having physical challenges, it can be very easy to get disheartened. This is the reason Asociacion de Sindrome de Down Cochabamba (ASDC), our Chalice sponsor site in Bolivia, focuses on helping to improve the quality of life for people with Down Syndrome. Thanks to Chalice donors, the ASDC Site was able to purchase physiotherapy equipment such as crutches, exercise balls and stationary bicycles to help the children develop their muscles and learn how to walk. These gifts are already making a difference in the lives of both sponsored and non-sponsored children in Bolivia.
Victor Manuel isn't able to walk yet, but thanks to his walker and exercise ball, he has gained significant strength in his legs and has taken his first steps. This little victory is only the beginning for Victor and other children like him.
ASDC plans to implement more therapeutic programs such as occupational therapy, where adults with Down Syndrome will learn skills to be able to earn an income. With the continued help of people who choose to sponsor a child through Chalice and generous donors, ASDC will continue to thrive and provide special care to those who need it most.
Jannet, the mother of a sponsored child, extends "a hug of thanks for the support that you have given to us and God bless you for thinking of our sons and daughters".
