Tour the St. Dominique Girls House: Relief and Gratitude in Port-au-Prince

Our St. Dominique sponsor site, which is the closest site to Port-au-Prince, was the most directly affected by the gang activity throughout Haiti. The violence forced them to move their Foyer Ecologique Pierre Salvetti orphanage from Titanyen - their community just outside the capital - to a safer location within the city.

“We were displaced with over sixty children and staff members in Port-au-Prince,” says Wendell, St. Dominique site director, “and faced the overwhelming challenge of finding a safe place to stay, feeding everyone, and continuing the education of our children.”

Finding a new home for sixty children and staff was a daunting task alone. But there were added challenges. By law, the orphanage needs separate, transitional housing for residents over the age of 18 - one for boys and one for girls.

Thanks to all those who supported the Haiti Regional Relief Fund, Wendell and his staff were able to cover rent for the new orphanage location for eight months, as well two houses for male and female young adults, and a new site office location. You provided chairs, living room furniture, and kitchen supplies for both the orphanage and transition houses.

Your support through the relief fund has been invaluable to both the orphanage and the wider sponsor site. “Your contributions have made a profound impact on the lives of the children in our care,” says Wendell.

“Thanks to your unwavering support, we have been able to ensure a safe and stable place for the children, provide food and essential educational supports that allow the children to attend school and pursue their academic dreams to work towards a brighter future,” Wendell says.

“Each day, the children benefit from the stability and opportunities that your kindness has afforded them. Your generosity has not only provided immediate relief but also laid a foundation for stability and growth for the future.”
