THROUGH MY EYES: OUR ARTIST OF THE MONTH IS: MAXIMUS!

For Maximus, sponsorship is about family. He came to live at the Foyer Ecologique Pierre Salvetti orphanage, in Haiti, when he was nine years old. When he met Fr. Charles and the Sisters and staff at the orphanage, for the first time he met adults he could rely on.

"His life changed since he came to the orphanage,” says Wendell, St. Dominique site director, “by receiving a good education, having food to eat, and a new family.”

When he was sponsored, Maximus, “started a new journey, with a new family, who always think of him by supporting him through education and other things that make him what he is today.”

Wendell asked Maximus, now 23, if he wanted to be the St. Dominique site’s featured artist. Maximus readily agreed and started to ponder what ‘Sponsorship Through My Eyes’ would look like.

“Many ideas came to mind to describe what my sponsor's support means to me,” says Maximus. “I realized where I came from, and where I am today.”

“As an orphan,” he says, “I still feel like I have a hand that carries me to survive, and a source of water to nourish me, educate me, and bring me hope.”

“For me, it's a representation of God through my sponsor for every single donation my sponsor has made for me. And I am the tree that grows with his support."
