A CRITICAL NEED FUND SAVES A NINE-YEAR-OLD CHILD IN PARAGUAY
Nine-year-old Luz Navila is an energetic, happy girl who lives with her family near our Pukavy site in Paraguay. When she was very little, she was diagnosed with Adenotonsillar Hypertrophy- which created an obstruction in her upper airways. Luz Navila spent much of her young life in the hospital.
Luz Navila’s parents and doctors treated her with antibiotics and natural remedies, but nothing worked. During one of her examinations, she was also diagnosed with Pharyngotonsillitis – an acute infection of the pharynx or tonsils. There was a risk that this could lead to complications to in her kidney and heart.
As 2022 progressed, Luz Navila’s health worsened, and her doctors saw that her condition was now life-threatening. The disease had progressed to a point where it was now affecting other organs and breathing was becoming increasingly difficult for Luz Navila.
She needed urgent surgery. The procedure she required would cost thousands of dollars, rendering it inaccessible to her family. When our Pukavy sponsor site learned about Luz Navila’s complications, they applied to start a Chalice Critical Needs Fund for her surgery.
Thanks to an outpouring of love and generosity from our donors, enough money was raised to provide Luz Navila with the successful surgery which removed the nasal obstruction allowing her to breathe without complications!
“Thanks to Chalice, her quality of life was improved,” writes the Pukavy site staff. “Today she can play, go to school, and share her happiness with other children.”
“Seeing the smile on her face is priceless, Divine Providence works miracles in the hearts of people who day by day offer their help to change the lives of the most disadvantaged.”
