JESUS SPOKE, JESÚS ANSWERED: A SPONSORED STUDENT ANSWERS HIS EUCHARISTIC CALL

Now 25, Jeshu grew up in a bustling family of eight near Chalice’s Cañete sponsor site, just south of Lima, Peru. His parents nurtured their children’s Catholic faith, and Jeshu felt a calling to explore further.

“One day he decided to talk to a priest about his possible vocation to the priesthood, who invited him to start helping at Holy Mass,” the Cañete site staff write. “In each celebration, he confessed and received communion, in the afternoons he visited the tabernacle.”

It was there before the Blessed Sacrament that Jeshu “felt that God wanted his vocation to be born in and for the Eucharist.” So, when he graduated high school, Jeshu went straight into the seminary.

For the next six years, he underwent intensive formation in philosophy and theology. In 2019, a Chalice sponsor began supporting him, ensuring he could cover his tuition and living expenses. Jeshu remembers those years fondly as “times of continuous prayer, growing in love for Jesus Christ and his Blessed Mother, exercising in a solid interior life.”

After a pastoral year in a community parish, Jeshu celebrated his ordination to the diaconate. Then the big day came.

“After the arduous and long road,” the Cañete staff proudly announce, “Deacon Jesús received Priestly Ordination on December 30, 2022, and celebrated his first Mass on January 8.”
