Elrima's Hard Work and Diligence Build a Bright Future

Elrima, a brilliant young woman from our Jessore sponsor site in Bangladesh, dreamed of becoming a doctor. Although she was a gifted student, her future was in doubt. Her father abandoned the family, and her mother earned only the equivalent of $14 per month.

With Elrima and her sister in school and no other source of support, her mother didn't know how much longer they could hang on. Relief flooded through them and squeals of excitement ensued when Elrima learned she was chosen by a sponsor. They knew everything was going to be OK.

With a renewed drive and purpose, Elrima worked hard and received top marks in all her courses. She had one goal in mind - she would be a doctor. She was going to fight through every barrier thrown her way, study hard, and come out on top.

She graduated high school with a high GPA and applied for admission into medical school, but wasn't discouraged when she didn't get in on her first try. Instead of medical school, she entered a different university to study food and nutrition, with her goal of becoming a doctor still fully in sight.

Elrima continued towards her goal. In 2017, she again wrote the medical school admission exam, and this time she was admitted to a renowned medical university at Jessore! Now in her third year, Elrima is preparing herself to become a doctor and will soon fulfill her dream.

Elrima and her mother are grateful to her sponsor for supporting her these last 11 years. She prays every day for her sponsor and Chalice staff who have seen her through every setback and struggle and celebrated all her success.
