Fleria's Sponsor Helps Her Sew Up Succees

Fleria grew up under the caring eye of her grandmother, Rose. Elderly and living with a chronic health condition, Rose welcomed Fleria and her siblings in, as well as their cousins. They lived together in a humble home in an impoverished neighborhood in Mombasa, a city on Kenya's ocean coast. They had no running water or electricity, and Rose's health prevented her from taking paid work.

In her early years, Fleria struggled in school. But when she was 10 years old, a Chalice sponsor began supporting her. This helped Rose ensure that her grandchildren had nutritious diets, medical care, and everything they needed for school.

Soon Fleria's grades improved - her favorite subject was math. Her kind sponsor supported her through her education and beyond. When she graduated, she pursued dressmaking through a local class.

Fleria was overjoyed when her sponsor sent her the most special gift, a sewing machine! Now she can run her own dressmaking business at a kiosk in her community. "This dressmaking business has started bringing a change to the whole family," writes Sr. Janefrances, the Mombasa sponsor site director. Fleria is especially proud that she can now supplement her family's household costs, and assist her grandmother in buying medication.

Fleria is "extremely grateful" to her sponsor, who has "permanently impacted her entire life," writes Sr. Janefrances. "The site greatly appreciates the sponsor for putting a smile on Fleria and her siblings. Thus our prayers go to such our sponsors who are impacting many lives in our site."
