Sponsorship Helps Aswathy Shine

In her white lab coat, surrounded by beakers, microscopes, and other lab equipment, Aswathy sits with a quiet and confident demeanor. Working efficiently in her job as a lab technician at St. Vincent's Hospital, Aswathy is thankful of the support of her family, her sponsors and everyone at Chalice.

Growing up in Kerala, India, Aswathy's potential was evident. Even though she lived in what amounted to a small shed with her parents, grandmother, and two older siblings, she was surrounded by love. Her parents are daily wage earners and struggled to make ends meet with irregular work and low wages. They pressed on with the hope one day their lives would improve.

An avid student, in 2006 Aswathy and her parents were filled with joy to learn she had been chosen by a sponsor. Through sponsorship, Aswahy flourished and her family was so thankful for the financial support for her education, food, and other needs. Above and beyond the material benefits, the confidence boost and special connection created through being chosen by a sponsor are significant.

When a child finds out they have been chosen by a sponsor, it makes them feel loved. They have someone who cares about them, someone whom they have never met but is now a member of their family forever.

After eight years, Aswathy's first sponsor was retired and she received a new sponsor who supported her through high school and secondary school. She completed her course in 2019 and started her job as a lab technician later that year.

Aswathy is so thankful for both of her sponsors for helping her finish school so she could find a good job and help her family. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future," Jeremiah 29:11.
